Marimekko’s Sustainability Review 2017 now available

Marimekko’s sustainability review 2017 is now available on our website. The review covers, among other things, the highlights of our sustainability work and our sustainability strategy. It focuses also on how we secure sustainability in our supply chain and the environmental impacts related to Marimekko’s own production.

Towards more sustainable materials

Marimekko aims to increase the share of more sustainable cotton and other more sustainable materials in its products and packaging. For cotton, to Marimekko the more sustainable alternative is mainly Better Cotton, and on seasonal basis organic or recycled cotton. In 2017, of the cotton we procured already 53 percent was more sustainably produced Better Cotton – an increase of three percentage units compared to the previous year. We also take part in initiatives to research and develop new, more sustainable materials. In 2017 we began cooperation with the Finnish fibre technology company Spinnova, with the aim of developing and commercialising new, wood-based textiles. Read more about the cooperation here >>
